Listen… Did you hear that sound?
Like a distant earthquake rumbling?
It’s the same sound that I heard the day that you said you’d found someone new, that you were leaving, that you wouldn’t change your mind and try to sort things out.
It’s the same sound that I heard as you packed your things to go and couldn’t quite decide which of the shared things you would take, or what things you should throw.
It’s the same sound that I heard as you took our child’s hand and began to walk away, and then said that though I’d rarely see her, you’d expect that I’d still pay.
When you said you’d maybe ring me to let me know that things are fine, with your new car and your new job and your new home and his new wife,
and child who calls him daddy.
Listen… There it goes again!
It’s the same sound that I heard as you slammed the door, but not before you told me that it wasn’t all my fault and that I shouldn’t blame myself and that I’d soon find someone new.
It’s the same sound that I heard as your taxi turned the corner and drove out of my life, with my one and only child and my, for better or worse wife.
Listen… Did you hear that sound?
That’s the sound of a heart breaking…………

Yes… Even Mrs Underfelt thought it was a bit sad.

I thought I’d try and show that I can write something more than rhyming couplets…
