Just a friend

She’s on her own, I’m on my own, she only sees me as a friend

She lives alone, I live alone, she only sees me as a friend

She sleeps alone, I sleep alone, she only sees me as a friend

She comes for tea, we go for drinks, she only sees me as a friend

I ring her up, she calls me back, but only sees me as a friend

And when we walk, she holds my hand, but only sees me as a friend

We sit for hours, and talk and talk, she tells me I’m her closest friend

I make her laugh, she thinks I’m great, but only sees me  as a friend

The girls at work, have paired us up, “I only see him as a friend”

She’s with a guy, I call out “hi”, he doesn’t know that she’s my friend

“Who’s that” says he, “No one” says she

“Just a friend,

of a friend,

of a friend”
